What is Emily Alter about?

Writing headings in third person feels weird.
That said, I’m just a baby.
Okay, no. I’m a social psychologist and a licensed sex therapist who started writing fanfic when I was still too young to know that’s what I was doing. Writing has always been the way I make sense of the world around me, it’s how I process and build a better reality. And, because I’m a masochist, I figured I might as well share it with all of you.

  • Kink

    I stumbled into the world of kink pretty much as soon as it was legal for me to do so. I’ve been active in a bunch of different communities since, as a puppy, a brat, a masochist, a Little… And so that’s what I write.

  • Queerness

    I didn’t always identify as queer, but it’s the label that makes the most sense. It’s a political statement, more than just who I’m attracted to, or what my relationship with my body looks like. (This is where I plug my pronouns, too: she/he/they).

  • Community

    Can you tell I’m tired of individualism? And capitalism? And all the things that pull us away from a true sense of community. My books are a place for me to either work through the frustrations and pains that come from it, or to reinvent what the world would look like if we weren’t surrounded by everything around us.

On AI

I oppose generative AI in every way, shape, or form. It’s not just that AI has no place in any creative field (it doesn’t), or that my books were stolen for its “learning”. AI destroys the environment, erodes neural pathways, and a technofascist tool.

AI isn’t used at any stage of my creative process (from research to writing and editing), and I will never knowingly use it in any other materials either (such as marketing).

If you think I’ve ever used an image that was generated with AI, please let me know, and it will be corrected right away.

On Amazon

For the longest time, because of geopolitical stuff that’s too boring to get into, my only means to publish was through Amazon, and so, despite its abusive practices, I remained exclusive to it via Kindle Unlimited.

This year (2026), I’m finally able to go wide with my books and have them available in every other platform.

That said, and because I still live in this capitalistic hell, and I realize most of my audience are KU readers, I’m experimenting with a hybrid release strategy for now. This means that, for the first three months after release, my books will be available through Kindle Unlimited. However, after that, they’ll go wide. You can still read them through a subscription via Kobo Plus, but they won’t be exclusive to Amazon.

Ideally, I’d like to take all my books off Amazon, given their latest news on adding AI features to our books without our consent, and their active participation and involvement in the current sociopolitical climate, but I can’t make any promises there, and it will depend on how my books do wide.

On politics

I think by now, this can be deduced, but in case it needs to be stated more clearly, I have been part of activist circles ever since I left high school and the small town I grew up in, and my politics are…all the way to the left. This means I 100% oppose the current sociopolitical climate in most western countries, and every “opposition” that’s still rooted in capitalism and white supremacy, to name a few systems.

Oh, and Palestine is still not free, and I haven’t shut up about it in a decade, so I’m not starting now.
