Since I started writing, I started collecting all 5-star reviews I could find. This is the result (but it’s still under construction, so please be patient). I would like to point out that this is clearly a very biased collection of feel-good reviews. Gift for a Demon
Gift for a Demon by Emily Alter is part of the multi author Possessive Love series.
Each book is a standalone with possessive love at its finest. Please read the trigger warnings for this book. This is the story of Melchom,
a demon, and Dave, a human who Melchom renames Dove. This book pulled me in from the beginning and I couldn’t put it down. I love Melchom and Dove, they are just perfect for each other. Both these guys have issues to work through to truly be together. I loved the characters and story. This book brought me to tears several times, it also made me smile at times. This book had all the steam, angst, and storyline I needed. I would definitely recommend this book and series.
Dave and Melchom story was interesting, with a high dose of adrenaline and danger as well as a big side of psychological impact, hurt, betrayal and most of all finding love against all odds.
I liked the way their relationship bloomed and how they learned trust and expressing their feelings.
It was interesting to see the intricacies of Dave’s mind as slowly he becomes Dove, the psychological impact and the manipulation taking place.
I really enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to see what happens next.
An interesting and unusual story about a human and a demon. I was as confused as Dave when he first arrived in Hell. Who do the voices belong to? Are they even real?
Is he having an episode? What on Earth is going on? And then he meets Melchom, who fits Dave’s definition of hot, even though he’s also super scary. Demon’s gifts (humans) don’t generally survive long in Hell…but there’s something a bit different about Dave—maybe it’s just the way his mind works. The interplay between the two is fascinating, Dave’s mind running off in so many directions, his conversations with the demon end up being hilarious, definitely not going in the direction Melchom expects, which leads to Melchom being intrigued and enjoying his gift way more than he expected to. Definitely worth reading!
This is an interesting read, and I really liked Melchom and Dave, aka Dove. This story caught my attention from the start, and I really enjoyed it.
Heed the trigger warnings! An angsty romance that starts with betrayal and kidnapping. Ends with a hard won happy ending and a sweet but dirty epilogue.
High steam.
High spice.
Realistic depiction of a mental illness without stigma.

I really enjoyed this story. This was very different and extremely interesting. I loved the dynamics between these two and the storyline just drew me in and wouldn’t let go. This was a fantastic addition to this collaboration of stories.
Dave has been given as a gift to the previous king of Hell unknowingly. Melchom is a demon and feeds off fear. At first, he plans to just use the gift he’s been given, however, Dave has some surprises that keep him interesting. Dave has psychotic episodes from time to time and isn’t sure what’s real or not. I love the way his mind is described as working and how Melchom sees him. I’d say that these two unfold very uniquely from others in this series. Their love story isn’t so straight forward but they do truly come to care for the other. Gaz is the perfect addition and I loved how Dave keeps insisting that she’s a dog. There are some triggers so please mind those and the kinks before diving in. However, I found this a really gripping story and fell in love with these characters! I do hope that we get to see Bez again. I’m curious how it’s going with his new human!
I found this one to be very entertaining, I loved the characters and how their relationship evolved to suit both of their needs in the relationship. I could not put this down, however the story was full of things that could be a trigger for some so if you don’t love all things dark and delicious read the warnings first. Amazing read.
Dave and Melchom are a great pair. I loved that this wasn’t instalove, and that Hell and Melchom were terrifying, at least at first. This book is HOT, and I recommend to read the trigger warnings, because it is quite raw sometimes. Dave and Melchom are very interesting characters and the way Dave get used his new living accommodations is quite amusing. Between betrayals Dave and Melchom grow to trust each other and find a very well earned HEA. The world Emily Alter creates for this story is great, allowing Melchom to keep being a demon and growing to love Dave despite his humanity.
This story pulls together some intriguing elements: let’s start with the premise, in which Dave (unsuspecting human) winds up in Hell…and plenty of steam and intrigue ensues. There are plenty of twists and turns to go with all the spice (plenty of that too) and Dave and Melcholm have a chemistry that really practically burns off the page in intensity. What works for them, physically and emotionally, might not be for everyone, but it clearly fits their needs, and watching Dave find a place and a person (demon?) who gets him and wants him and can balance him out in ways he values, like watching Melcholm develop some softer, more complex sides in response to his “Dove,” feels rewarding.
Loved this book ❤️ It has a little bit of everything ❤️ Grumpy demon that’s really a cinnamon roll deep down, a kinky bottom and snuggling dogs (ok hellhound…). The book is funny, sweet, full of intrigues and action ❤️ Did I say kinky?! Lots of watersport, big size difference, fear play and more! 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
This is my first book by Emily Alter but it absolutely won’t be my last. Melchom and Dove are so incredibly special—Dove’s illness makes his mind a complex yet intriguing place and Melchom is fearsome and incredibly appealing. Their journey is fascinating—this book is so very, very sexy and so full of surprises. Loved this series and this was an epic conclusion.
This is another good addition to this multi author series. This is a new to me author and I enjoyed this story. I liked the characters and thought that Dove and Melchom were perfect for each other. Gaz was a good addition to the storyline that gave Dove options if he wanted them. Good read—will try more from this author in the future.
He has become a human gift to hell but he is not even sure if he was in hell. They made mistakes before but they will not make the same mistakes and yet they are pulled towards them. How will they get on? Will they find love? See how it will all go.
Dave is not quite sure how he ended up in the underworld as a gift for a demon, and not just any demon. He has been gifted to Melchom, who was the king until a deceitful human stole his crown, a human named David. But Dave is not defeated and plans on learning how to make his way in this new situation. Melchom finds himself at a loss when Dave, or Dove as he prefers, works his way into his heart. Unfortunately, this new home is filled with complex and dangerous inhabitants.
Dave was dealing with quite a few problems. He had some issues getting his brain to work like everyone else’s. Melchom felt his brain was multifaceted and fascinating. He found being surprised by Dave on more than one instance. His names for him made you smile. There is also a matter of a prophesy and of course forces to work against that. It was also very hot with lots of heated action going on. Gift for a Demon is a fun, toasty read that should not be missed. I am betting everyone who likes this type of story will enjoy it.

Emily Alter has come up with another really fun book with this novel that is part of the muli-author “Possessive Love” series. Most of the story is set in Hell as Dave trusted the wrong person and ended up as a gift for Melchom who used to run Hell. Ms. Alter has written a whole backstory and rules for Hell that affect the characters and their interactions both with each other and the few other characters that are in the story. I really enjoyed this book but beware because it is set in Hell. It’s not a vanilla tale and there are a lot of k1nks present in this gift of a story. Alter has written characters that are into all of it so there is a lot of fun had by Dave and Melchom though some is CNC. If you are not familiar with this term then read the warnings and look things up before you delve into this story for us fre@ky people.
Hot Hot Hot!!! Poor Dave has no family connections, and is betrayed by his only friend. He is sacrificed as a gift for the dethroned king of Hell, Melchom. I wasn’t expecting a whole lot of plot, and was pleasantly surprised with what we got! The way the author depicted Dove’s schizophrenia was so unique, and I loved that it wasn’t even considered to “fix” him. It was fun to see him start off so shy about his body at the beginning to embracing living in the beautiful lingerie that Melchom likes to dress him in. I wasn’t 100% sure about all of the kinks in the TWs, but they were so well done I found myself loving them! This was my first book by Emily Alter, but I will definitely be reading more. I can’t wait to finish the other stories in the Possessive Love world.
I’m really enjoying this series and discovering that it isn’t the dark one I expected. Here, Dave and the demon who falls for him make a wonderful couple. Melchom was delightful as a character who had been badly burned by a human once before and was determined to never take that chance again. Well, that is until irresistible Dave shows up, lol. Dave is justifiably fearful of both the place and the paranormal and it is interesting to see his evolution as the relationship with Melchom progresses. I enjoyed the world building and especially the scheming and plotting going on in the nether regions.
This book was everything. If I could, I’d give it more stars than 5. It was super kinky, and I loved it. Size difference. Watersports. Fear play. Melchom feeds off of fear. Well, he tends to make Dove fearful and feeds off of them. I wasn’t sure it was a HEA when I went into this book, but it was, and it ended just how I needed it to. Dove gets his demon and his perfect life. Sure it’d be nice if he got to go up to earth when he wanted but I think the fact that Melchom and him are together is the best. Honestly this book kept me up. And now I’ll constantly recommend it.
Dave is a fascinating character in this steamy read. I loved the characters. The story is unique and this new to me author wrote a great book.
“That’s a bit dramatic.”
I loved this book. It was such a fun, steamy read. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Dave and Melchom. The story was fascinating and hooked me from the start. How could it not when Dave suddenly finds himself imprisoned in Hell to be gifted to a demon? I loved the relationship between them and their dynamic. And their chemistry was hot. I liked Mel’s reasoning for renaming Dave to Dove. That scene felt cute to me. The prophesies were fascinating. I also liked the supporting characters. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I will definitely be reading more! 5 stars.

The writing and storytelling were comfortable and easy, especially when the subject matter was dark, devilish and devastating. The main characters Dove and Melchom drew me in and their bond connected in their own way, which worked for them. I love that the writer took on mental health, grief, healing, and this book sinks into you. The enjoyment of the sexual components is great as you see their connection grow and their own satisfaction (even though I personally am not interested in their golden shower kink), the story itself wants you to see them succeed. To root for them both as they work towards finding their balance of a happily ever after.
Mistress: Found
Wow what a hot story. I loved the main characters; their connection was embedded throughout the book. Definitely must read. Congratulations.
I am reviewing this as an aroace person so I thought “hmm i’ll be okay to read this in public.” Never have I ever been more wrong. I was sat there blushing for almost the entirety of this book.
This book is duel POV, which in my opinion is the best way to have a book because I love being able to get into the heads of all of the main characters. I love both of the main characters, Iria and Nerea, so much.
Nerea is a sub who had been deemed unsafe to play with by most of the dommes in the club she frequents. Throughout the book she works through trauma and safely explores her limits with a domme she trusts, Ira. The personal growth she experiences is stunning to go through with her. Without revealing too much she goes through both a journey in kink and one with her trauma and trust towards other people.
Iria is a domme whose love language is words of affirmation and is very keen on praising the subs that she plays with. Her curiosity is peaked when she is approached by Nerea who asks if she could flog the sub. Their first scene together, our opening scene, does not play out how you would expect. Iria respects the boundaries set in place between the two of them from the get go and is just so hot.
Iria is just so dominant that i’m like 😳. My favourite time is;
“How would you punish me, Mistress?”
“Maybe, I’II make you sit on that armchair. Keep a toy against your poor clit while you have to keep your eves on me and tell me how it feels.”
This is paraphrased because I would be a monster to not let you experience the scene for the first time by yourself because trust me you’ll want to. She is just—i just—dominant women ya know? Like do you reckon she needs a dog? I will happily bark for her.
I would say as much as this is erotica, I would also say it is a romance. We see two characters go from just scene partners and not knowing each other to them being aware of each other’s presence, knowing the exact moment they’re in the same room without looking at them and it is such a beautiful experience.
I highly recommend this book. I myself am going to be buying the paperback when they’re available. This book has made me fall in love with his writing and I know for a fact I will read the rest of their books.
My summary? I’ve never been a religious person but damn i’d get on my knees for Iria and am jealous of Nerea for having the opportunity to be able to.
This book is not for the faint hearted but mixed in with some beautifully spicy scenes is a heart warming love story. Nerea is a sub that Domms don’t trust, Iria is new to the area and after a scene at their local club sees more in Nerea that she wants to explore. Together they work through Nerea’s last traumas to bring out the best in each other.
This book was incredible. It was so perfectly spicy but also held a beautiful love story.
I could not put it down.
The dual POV is perfection in my opinion and the storyline developed and well written.
Iria came along exactly when Nerea needed her. Helping Nerea to confront her feelings Iria also gets the chance to discover more about herself so that she can provide Nerea with what she needs from their relationship.
I’m a big fan of Emily’s Sapphic works and the way she weaves love, submission and kink into a combined erotic paradise.
In this story we meet a sub struggling with herself and her past, Nerea. She has secrets and aims to lose herself to help cope with them. That is, until she meets Ira and finds herself captivated.
The love and care between the pair is the absolute root of this story. The way Alter crafts their stories so we can see Iria as the hard Domme that Nerea wants but also the loving, caring partner she needs, even if she cannot see herself worthy of that care, is beautiful.
The storyline is a tale of self discovery and healing. It’s not terribly angsty but it is emotional, as well as hot.
Plenty of steamy and kinky on page activity.
Thoughtful, spicy AF, and a real treat to read. It was very easy to get lost in Iria and Nerea’s world. I really tried hard to not rush through it because I didn’t want it to end but I couldn’t help it! Looking forward to reading more from this author.
I’m usually wary of sapphic self-published romance novels (because they can somehow feel so heteronormative) but I’m happy I tried this one. It was really great! The characters felt real and queer, the kink was so good and I loved the Spanish touch. I’ll now go on to read all Emily Alter’s books!
An excellent and exciting read!
I’m always nervous when I pick up books that focus heavily on BDSM. This book exceeded my happiest hopes! There’s a lovely list of covered kinks at the front, so you can choose if this book suits you, and each one is handled so well! The sex and kinky scenes are steamy and made me never want to stop reading! The shifting perspectives between Mistress and sub really appealed to me as someone who plays on both sides of the slash.
Emily Alter works through some thorny issues in the book and really made me care for all the characters. I just loved this book!
This book was the 1st I’d read of Emily’s.
I thoroughly enjoyed it.
If you like d/s relationships then you’ll love this book.
Domme is a sadist but a caring one if that’s possible. lol.
I felt the chemistry between the pair from the start.
Is was so nice following their story as they began to trust.
If you like reading about BDSM, healing, connecting, TPE, sapphic, pain, blood, consent, love, and more, then definitely give this a go. It is very well written. It is engaging from start to finish. So many scenes leading to the TPE which I felt was so well done. We get both MCs POVs which I always love but even more so in D/s stories.
